Week 11 - Crazy Busy

Thank goodness Amber was significantly ahead in her school hours compared to this time last year, because we had a rather busy week that did not leave a large amount of time for book work. Actually, the rest of October does not leave as much time as I would like for book work.

However, Amber has been a real trooper and fit in lessons whenever she had the chance. I'm proud of how she is taking more responsibility for her lessons and requires less harping from me. That's not to say that she is perfect and doesn't need a few reminders - or need to work on using her planner more. Still, it's lovely to have my child ask what lessons she can fit in between daily events.

Lunch and shopping with Grandma.
Amber navigated around our daily out-of-the-house appointments and activities to complete:
  • Five math lessons
  • Finished her literature book (Around the World in 80 Days) - but we still have discussion and writing assignments on this to complete
  • Two botany lessons with writing assignments, as well as began her leaf collecting to later identify them.  (We are also about to start Chemistry 101 as a review item -it's all prepped and ready to go. We're terribly excited!)
  • One full writing lesson in IEW.
  • Health homework for co-op (it was a break week though)
There was also daily flute practice, exercise, and is striving to organize her time better. Usage of the planner is not going as well as I had hoped. Still, I'm thrilled with the amount of work Amber completed, and that it was all well done.  Sometimes book work is not the top priority. This week (or this month) it is other items.

Physical therapy this week - upright exercise on the elliptical! And working her core.
So, what kept us from home so much this week and made our poor kitties desperately lonely? Just about everything you could imagine. It has been a break week from our co-op classes, which means we had to schedule other things in that place.

Amber had her regular physical therapy and occupational therapy, which of course are on two different days at the hospital, flute lesson, orthodontist appointment, lunch out and shopping with Grandma on a rather pleasant afternoon, corn maze activity with the homeschool teen group, and a full day of service project sewing (weighted blankets) with friends.  Whew! I'm tired just thinking about it and I'm even more exhausted looking at our upcoming weeks that are similarly scheduled.

Confirmation questioning completed!
This weekend the busyness doesn't end either. Amber finally has her first yearbook meeting of the year on Saturday, plus other project assignments she needs to work on. I have to make more progress on her Halloween costume that might be needed for an event a full week before Halloween.  Not to mention, arrange for the confirmation party food and such. Just, eek!

Thankfully, the confirmation questioning last Sunday went well for all of the confirmands. Amber did not have any problems with her questions and did not have any noticeable health problems from the stress. She even attended the joint middle school / high school youth group event later that evening.

I just have to say - High Schoolers are busy!

  4. I am finding this month to be a super busy one for us as well and we're struggle to squeeze in our book work most weeks. I keep telling myself it will all settle down soon- I hope I'm right. Sounds like you all had a wonderful week though.
